Problems with update the templates

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi,

I want to update some of your templates which I am using on Joomla! 3.4.5.

After having installed the newest T3 Framework I tried to update;
JB_Motion_J2.5_J3.0_v1.2.0 >>> JB_Motion_J2.5_J3+_v2.0.4
but it failed.
Appeared messages: "Copy file failed" "Error installing template"

Would you tell me how to update generally your templates?
Or is there any information regarding the update on your homepage?

Thank you

Best regards,

Hi Ichiro,

Are your permissions ok?

Are you able to install other extensions?

Cheers

With a template update we would suggest first backing up using Akeeba backup and testing it works

Then install as per the standard installer overwriting the existing template version

It well commonly require a compile less to css after installation of the new template version

Hi Paul,

Thank you very much.

Yes, I made a back up with Akeeba.

However I don't understand what
"install as per the standard installer..." means.
Usually we can upload/install templates by Joomla Extension Manager, but it did not work for the "Motion".

I am sorry, I don't have much idea about the data transfer.
Do you mean to upload whole files of the template, for example, per FTP?
But the extracted template has no file called installer.
Or should I just copy (upload) all the files and overwrite the old ones?

Then I thought I switch the default template to other one for a short time and uninstall the old template followed by installing the template with newer version using normal Joomla extension manager.
However I hesitate as my site is multi-lingual with four languages.

I am thankful for any help.

Best regards,

Hi Ichiro

sorry I wasn't clear

"install as per the standard installer..." does mean install using the Joomla Extension Manager

Installing the zip / archive file as you would with any extension

Please DON'T uninstall anything :)

Regarding permissions

docs.joomlabamboo.com/intermediate-joomla/view-file-permission-information-from-the-joomla-admin

If you check this out - does anything odd show up?

Hi Paul,
I thank you very very much.
"configuration.php" was set unwritable.
Following your information with Admin Tool it ran everything smoothly.
In a minute I could install the newer "Motion" by Joomla Extension Manager and everything looks OK.
I thank you very much again.
