Correctly copy and rename template

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi,

I have always copied and renamed templates through editing files, file names and database entries. And then I install another JB template with the original name. That way I have one that is the client's and one that is the default. Since J3, they provide an "easy" way of doing this but It never REALLY finds all the paths.

Using J3 and Zengrid templates, what are the other edits I must find and make?

Thanks,
Helen

Hi Helen,

Nice to see you again - been awhile :)

I wrote this doc last week - docs.joomlabamboo.com/zen-grid-framework-4/creating_new_themes_with_zgfv4/Create-an-installable-package.html

That should help.

Thanks

I have tried this and I cannot get the template to install. I get an error that it is missing the template_thumbnail.png.

Of course I don't have a custom thumbnail yet so I was going upload one later to replace the current, but there is no current file.

I checked a few other sites that I used the Quick Install and they don't have thumbnails either. (Xero and Venture) So I am thinking at least those two templates need thumbnails and I just pulled Prostar's in for the meantime.

Hi Helen

If you open the templateDetails.xml

and add in the line <filename>template_thumbnail.png</filename> between the <files> </files> tags

that should work, assuming the template_thumbnail.png is in the template directory. Then re-package and upload again. Hope that helps.
