Converting a site to Bamboo

Hi
I built a site some time ago in Beez20 currently using J 2.5.9.
If I update Joomla, I'm going to overwrite my custom css.
Is there an easy way to replicate the site in, say, Responsive, so that my custom css is safe? Or am I being over optimistic?
The client is a difficult one, and I don't really want to let them know what's going on, although they'll probably spot something eventually.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Ian

You can always create an Akeeba backup of the website, clone it in the subfolder of the domain, install different template, update Joomla and do all the customizations you need. When you are ready, just replace current website with the updated version
