How can I put a simple seasonal ad splash page before my actual home page?

Leading up to the holidays, I'd like to be able to put an opening ad (hopefully with direct links to the specific services offered) with an enter or continue to main site button.

Is there a simple way to do this?

probably easiest to use a pop-up extension

extensions.joomla.org/extensions/style-a-design/popups-a-iframes

there are lots of options, i personally have not used any yet (MOOPOPUP looks easy and simple)

Most regular shared servers look for the extension .html first when loading in a website. With Joomla, just about everything is written in the PHP language with the .php extension. With this, you can have a HTML splash page in your Joomla root folder called index.html. As you indicated make sure you have a 'Continue' link within this splash page. This link will be;

www.YOURDOMAIN.com/index.php

This will take your visitors directly to your Joomla site. I've done this several times and it works quite well...
