Too many internal requests

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

File Attachment:

File Name: website.zip
File Size: 1 KB

Hi,
My provider complaints that my website is making too many internal requests upon a single click on the website: "In the long run this can lead to issues with your website, causing it load more slowly and to use excessive amounts of server resources, therefore we highly recommend that you optimize your website."
They included a log file (attached), but all I can see in this log is the buidling of my home-page using the template-settings and zentools2.
Can you advice?
Kind Regards,
Jos

Have you tried testing on

developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
gtmetrix.com/

At the moment the site is blocking these services so I can't test it myself

I also get a 403 myself when trying to view the site

Is the requests all that is listed?

Hi Paul,

A few weeks ago my site was moved to a new server and after that there where problems with a looping script:

"With this notification we would like to inform you that your account hetnatuurhuis.nl consumes a very high percentage of the server resources (processor time and memory) and thus affects the performance of the whole shared server.

I had to remove several components, mudules and plugins to reslove the issue. After things where back to normal, I re-installed the applications and everything was fine. The website was down for two days.

On january 6 the problem with the internal requests arose. I couldn't take any action but after one day, the problem was gone. Again the website was down for one day.

I dropped a support-ticket just now and the website should be back to normal. Can you try again please?

Kind Regards,
Jos

Hi Jos,

I can see the site now

I've got a feeling this is a bot and you can disallow it but I'm not a 100% sure on this so will check

Hi Paul,

Just to be clear: the problem with "the bot" was solved in November last year!

On January 6 2016 I got this message:
"Dear Jos,
We would like to inform you that in the last 24 hours we have detected an abnormally high number of simultaneous connections to your website hetnatuurhuis.nl and had to limit temporarily the number of connections allowed. Please note that this may result in occasional error messages displayed to your visitors."
(hence the 403)

The problem now is with the 'too many internal requests' (January 7 2016):

"It appears that indeed the issue has been resolved and we have removed the limitations from your account.

However we have noticed that your website is making too many internal requests upon a single click on your website:

Hi Jos,

From the attached file, all the requests are for the sites javascript, css and image files that are needed to display the page.
This is normal for any website and I can see that you have jch installed which is combining the css and js files to reduce the number of requests.
From the file, it doesn't look like there are any issues at all.

I can only see it being an issue on the server if the site is receiving a lot of traffic. Is that the case?

If the issue is not with the requests in the attached file, and is the number of internally called scripts on each application instantiation then this is again very normal for any cms system.
You could cut down the number of includes by either removing extensions and plugins (Which will affect the functionality of the site, or you can enable caching in global configuration.
If the sites pages are static then you can enable the page cache plugin which will save html copies of pages to prevent the need for them to be generated until the cache time set in global configuration has expired.

From the supplied info, I can't see any issue with the site, however, I'm looking for the site here:http://worldwebheritage.org/ and I just see a GoDaddy holding page?

Regards,

Rob

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your responce! It backs-up my opinion on this.
The site isn't receiving that much traffic for it to cause server-problems in my humble opinion. It atracks about 5000 visitors in a month. When I check the 'Resource Usage Status' on the server, it is always OK (green). However, this was not the case on January 6 according to my host.

I also use JOT Cache so Joomla Caching in the global configuration and the joomla plug-in are turned off.
It is perhaps a good idea to add some pages that have more or less static content to the "Include Browser cache"-option of Jot Cache.

I have no clue what worldwebheritage.org/ is about. It has nothing to do with my website.

Kind Regards,
Jos.

Hi Jos,

You can safely add all pages to browser caching. That's different to a static page cache and just tells the browser not to request resources it has already downloaded on another page.

I'm guessing that if there was a surge on the site on the 6th and it's ok the rest of the time then it was probably due to an outside influence such as a brute force attack (Possibly related to the security updates released around that time). You would probably need more info from you host to find out what that was though.

If the usage status is in the green, then the host can't really complain as they set the limits.
As long as the site is loading fine for the users and not slow then there shouldn't be an issue.

Regards,

Rob
