https with cloudflares free SSL certificate

joomla 3.6.5

Hi there,

Since some weeks I’m in contact with cloudflares support to get https running on mathelike.de. I’m using cloudflares free flexible SSL certificate. The only problem is that the accordion menu (main menu navigation) I’m using on sidebar2 and offcanvas position is loosing it’s accordion function to show the active menu entry of the corresponding page. To compare http and https I did a copy installation of mathelike.de with mathelike.org (https). Cloudflares support told me that mixed content of having http and https urls could be the reason. But I think I have now corrected this issue, especially calling the external script for rendering math by https. And the accordion menu is still not working as desired.
So my question is what else can cause loosing the menus accordion function by https enabled?
Joomla configuarion is forced to use https, configuration.php live site uses https and I'm using this joomla cloudflare plugin and followed the setup instructions: www.simbunch.com/products/free-extensions/cloudflare-for-joomla

Please compare the following identical contents and see the accordion menu open with http and partially closed with https (sidebar2 + offcanvas):

www.mathelike.de/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-b/analysis-2/teilaufgabe-1c.html

www.mathelike.org/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-b/analysis-2/teilaufgabe-1c.html

I know that I can use the accordion function only with the parent menu entries and not with the nested. But that’s enough when a user in this way can see the actual pages menu entry and the navigation structure especially on mobile devices with the offcanvas menu.

Thanks for any assistance!

Hi Christian,

The html of the menu is different on both sites.

On the .org site it looks like the menu is only set to show 2 levels, but the .de site is set to show all levels.

Can you check the menu module options are the same on both sites.

There doesn't look to be any insecure scripts loading so I don't think the issue is related to the ssl cert.

Rob

Hi Rob,

I got the following answer and screenshots from cloud flare support:

Looking into this, this is likely something to do with the parser being blocked that is preventing some of the html from generating:

I would check with your site manager for why the script is being blocked and what is preventing this html from being generated. This does not seem Cloudflare related though

My template jQuery setting is the preset:

Hi Rob,

can you advice how to go on with this issue. I really would like to have https with the site especially because of the signing up pages for members.

Example page on live site mathelike.de with http:
www.mathelike.de/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-b/analysis-2/teilaufgabe-1c.html
Sidebar2 menu is working properly

Same example page on copy site mathelike.org with https:
www.mathelike.org/loesungen-abitur/mathematik-abitur-bayern-2016/pruefungsteil-b/analysis-2/teilaufgabe-1c.html
Sidebar2 menu not working properly

I've found out that the script code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.3.min.js cloud flare support mentioned above is hardcoded in modules\mod_k2_filter\tmpl\Default\template.php. It's from the extension k2 filter & search. I have already unpublished all concerning modules so the jQuery script no longer was loaded. But this doesn't help the sidebar2 accordion menu to work correct.
Also page speed insights is mentioning code.jquery.com/jquery-1.11.3.min.js to be a render blocking script.

Hi Christian,

I don't think this is related to scripts since the html is generated on the server and not in the browser. Loading multiple copies of jQuery will probably cause some other issues though.
You could create a template override for the module and remove the jquery line.

I think it must be some menu configuration differences.

If you can open a ticket with access to both sites I can take a look.

Hi Rob,

yes I think the override makes sense in any case.

Thanks for offering me a ticket. I'm going to open one with access for both sites.
