expanding view pagination?

Hi,

I was wondering....

If I have expanding view and I have, oh, let's say 9 as the limit with a 3 column max, would it be possible or ridiculous to have some type of pagination that would be like a vertical slide, like with a slideshow, where the next set of 9 might come up, rather than scroll down the page for 100 images?
