zentools2 and image quality

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I thought I saw a post a while back about image quality and zentools2 - I'm getting some jaggy aliasing on a group of images and would like to make the adjustment. Unfortunately, the search function on the forum isn't much help. All haystacks, no needles.

Hi

Do you have a link for the example?
What image format are the pics uploaded as?

Cheers

jpg is the format, and the orig look fine, even when opened on the server.

--> dev link <--

Click 'News' to onepage down.

(Note: front page is not a JB template - I acquired the work when the developer couldn't extend the site; but JB to the rescue! everything thereafter is JB Lifestyle2.)

Right so you are enlarging the images

its also an odd number in the pic dimension

I'd test with bigger images and/or test with disabling resize

Try changing the crop ratio as well other than 209px

take a look now - it's adding a border to the lenovo item (which does not actually have a border)

images are all 709 px square

Try sizing the images in your image editor at 840 x 840 and resize to 120px in zentools

709px isn't a good value to start from

840px is as it crops to a whole number e.g. 120px into 840px goes 7

It's just math and scale.... 709, 840 should make no difference at all.

I think the issue is more likely jquery and javascript... this is one crazy front page template. It's cool but it'e nothing but a cacaphony of bells and whistles.

I'm trying to avoid a fraction of a pixel being missed off the resized image 709px means a crop ratio of 5.90833333333 to get the 120px x 120px

that fraction of a pixel can mean a fine line image not displaying correctly

Even editing these type of images in photoshop can cause pixallation

I'm not saying it isn't module issue :) but with these types of images you have to be careful

Above is what I would try but I wouldn't be enlarging any line art based image :)

they're rgb, so should not make any difference at all. three layers of slop factor. what are all these cores for, if they can't do simple arithmetic (it's not even math, actually) to 21 significant digits? :whistle:

Does it work if you use the exact resize ratio and then add width and height that are in the same aspect ratio?
Thanks

I should be able to duplicate this template in LS2, now, I think? I have a couple parallax image backgrounds, but if I can work around that, I should be able to convert the front page to JB - I bet that will dispense with some script conflicts I'm wrestling with.

--> dev link <--

p.s. I did resize images, but it didn't solve all problems, only one: the strange border on lenovo. I think i need to convert the colors to a deep rich gray with lightly different values - an old printer's trick. Something like rgb 3,2,4 or 12, 10, 14.
