ajax error on upgrade

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi - I've just carried out a quick start install on this site www.avrsonline.co.uk/joomla3 and I'm getting this error when I try to update from J 4.5 to 4.8.3:
ERROR:
AJAX Loading Error: Forbidden
I've installed JB short codes.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Ian,
Where do you see that error?
Whats the version of Joomla you have? Those versions dont exist yet :)

Have you discovered all extensions in the extensions > discover tool?

Thanks

Hi Anthony - thanks for getting back to me, and apologies for getting my fingers in a knot! Too long at the keyboard again...

I'll start again.

Fresh install of Responsive2 quickstart. Trying to upgrade from 3.4.5 to 3.4.8.

I've attached a screenshot of the error, which occurs when I press the install now button in the update process.

I have checked discover, and there were some bits still to install, including the template, and I have installed everything that showed up.

Originally I uploaded all the files from the Responsive2 folder via ftp.

Any ideas?

Thanks again,

Ian

Hi Ian,

Are the permissions ok for the site?

If you upload

" all the files from the Responsive2 folder via ftp."

Then you are more likely to get permission issues

Are you now able to upload the zip as a single file and then extract on the server?

Hi Paul - I'e just checked server information > folder permissions and everything is green/writable.

I tried uploading the zip file initially, but it didn't work for me - user error again I'm sure.

Can I just upload the zip file to try again, or do I need to delete all the other files first?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

With a quickstart file it needs to be uploaded to an empty folder it can't be installed to an existing installation

Hi guys - sorry for the long delay on this one, I got caught up in other things.

I have solved the problem of the update by downloading the update package and installing it like a normal extension, but I'm still puzzled by what's happening.

I've searched Google over and over, but none of the solutions seemed to work for me, except the one above. Obviously lots of people are finding the same problem, with a variety of different causes.

I haven't yet discovered what's causing it for me. I've checked permissions, Admin tools and global config and everything seems fine.

I've even tried repeating the exercise on a different domain, on the same server, and I get exactly the same result.

I have been able to update other extensions such as admin tools and akeeba backup with no problem.

I'll have to see now if I have any other problems when working on the site.

Any more ideas on this one?

Thanks

Ian

Hi Ian,

So you are no longer uploading anything via ftp?

Are you still seeing any error?

Hi Paul - I am using cPanel now. It's amazing how much faster it is.

But - I still got the same error when trying to update Joomla to the latest version.

The only way I could carry out the update was to install the update package.

Hmm...

Hi Ian,

What are you using the cpanel for? uploading to the tmp folder?

If it works via installing the update package that is a valid way of updating

Does the site work ok now?

Hi Paul - I used cPanel to upload the zipped quick start file into an empty folder and unpack it. I used cPanel's permissions tag to set everything to 755.

The actual installation worked fine - it's only using the built in Joomla updater to go to 3.4.8 that gave me the error. So far...

Thanks

re cpanel - I thought you might have uploaded individual files (which is a bad idea) rather than the zip

have you uploaded any extensions that are big file sizes?

Akeeba installed no problem - although I did get this error message above the successful installation message:

Warning
Library Uninstall: Manifest file invalid or not found.

Not sure what it means...

Thanks
