Erratic Category/Article Title display on multiple 'Single Article' menu items

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

HI again Paul!

I've encountered some odd behaviour on multiple articles, including something oddd with the breadcrumb listing for each.

I have a single category containing 6 articles, and no sub-categories. I've created a 'Menu Heading' placeholder and listed all 6 articles individually under it.

When I created the first two articles I got the expected behaviour when I selected them from the menu:
Category Name
Article Title (turned on in Global)
Article

Breadcrumbs for these are: Home / Menu Heading / Category / Article Title

My third article displays this:
Article Title
Article

Breadcrumbs for this one is: Home / Category / Article Title

The CSS HR lines from the template are above and below where the Category SHOULD be displayed...but there is no text.

I then created a new article, copied all text from article #3 to this new article, saved it with an appended name under the same category, and created another menu link. This article displays this:
Article Title
Article Title
Article

Breadcrumbs for this is: Home / Menu Heading / Article Title

Other articles in the category display any of these 3 behaviours.

Initially my Menu Heading was named the same as my Category, which I read can cause issues. It has been changed but the behaviour persists.

Disabling the breadcrumb module does nothing and I don't see anything odd in the DB, though I'm also unclear about what I would be looking for anyway. lol

Have you ever seen this type of behaviour before, or anything similar?

Any ideas for troubleshooting appreciated!

Also do you get the same if you switch to a default joomla template?

Hi Paul,
If I switch to either default template I see nothing on the home page but a logo. If I am on a specific article before I switch templates, then refresh, I see the article content, but nothing else. No breadcrumbs, menu, etc.

You can view the sit here: http://dev3.clearmind.com/. The Menu item in question is - Our Workshops.

On a different issue just wondering why you are using the cufon extension?

How are you configuring the site?

The menu link set up takes precedence over the global and article settings

If you switch to a default template and change the position used for the breadcrumb - does that look the same?

I'm also a bit unclear what you mean by

"created a 'Menu Heading' placeholder"

Cheers

Hi Paul,

The menu links were created using the defaults, I never adjusted any options. The defaults are all set to Global or blank.

I've done some testing with Protostar default template. The breadcrumbs are still different for the page named 'Splash'; however I notice the Category Name that is listed on the Rasa2 template is missing, so it must be a part of the Rasa2 design, not a default Joomla display? So on a default template things look mostly correct as the Category H1 heading is not there, but the beadcrumbs still indicate something off.

When I said Menu Heading Placeholder I had forgotten the term Joomla used, apologies. I meant: Menu Item Type --> System Links --> Menu Heading

As for Cufon, just using a non web font for titles. I'm using Cufon for the moment, but will moving to @fontface and CSS edits before I release the site, and removing Cufon references. This was just faster for mockup for now for me, but not optimal.

I've left Protostar in place if you want to look.

Hi Steve,

This sounds possibly like a menu item id issue. Here is some reading on that:

Let us know if that helps.

Thanks

That fixed it, meaning they all display without the Category H1 Line, so are all uniform. Breadcrumbs do not display the category either, so it all looks identical.

I'll look further into the itemID issue as time permits as I am assuming someone will want the Category to display above the Article title in H1 as it was on some if them. lol

Thanks for all the help.
