layering design logo element

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi,

I am trying to do something that is driving me crazy. :S

I need to convert this decades old Website into a Joomla site and I cannot figure out how to handle that blueprint triangle. It needs to overlap the content. turnerlongconstruction.com/

I have both the triangle file and the logo file and I can edit them.

Any ideas?

I have both images combined into one (in the background css) now with a clear pixel block overlaying the logo (in a logo module) for the click to home. But of course this won't overlay the content.

If I put it in the logo module then that thing is too tall.

No link - just started.

Thanks,
Helen

Hi Helen,

Anthony is away to Wednesday next week - I can't really suggest anything I'm afraid :(

How is the client flexibility wise given issues with the logo on mobiles even if you can develop a desktop solution?

Cheers

Hi Paul,

The client wants it to look exactly like it does now for desktop. The current website doesn't have a mobile version. I told them it would need something different for smart phone because the triangle takes up too much space.

I would love it if I could have the triangle go across the top rather than down the left. I will prepare that option just to get their feedback.

But for smart phone portrait I am thinking I'll need to switch to the logo over a block of the design element (blueprint image) rather than any triangle. There just isn't enough room.

Maybe I need a flexible sized module that resides in the upper left corner with a z-index above the rest of the page, kind of like those floating modules only fixed. But I am not sure that is the best way either.

I suggested putting the triangle huge on the background and put some gradient overlays under the content. But they just love the current design. :(

Rats - I was hoping you might have some wiggle room given the design wouldn't work with mobiles

I'm not quite sure what to suggest unfortunately design wise

I will check with Anthony when he is back

While I wait, Paul, is there a tutorial for adding a module position for ZGFW4? I am finding others and trying things but I must be missing a step (or 2) because I cannot see the new module:
1. Created a new master layout file based on default: mytemplate>tpls>custom.php
2. Created a new block for module position: mytemplate>tpls>blocks>float.php
3. Added module position to templateDetails.xml: <position>float</position>

Then I don't know what to do. :S

Good clear document - great stuff.

Can I just add that you need some form of method or workflow that allows you add these modification back in or protect them from potentially being overridden if you need to update the template with the core JB version. There are a number of ways to do this, for us re-packaging the template files and keeping version numbers by client/site work in our workflow.

We touched on workflow in this post a while back - happy to expand on it.
www.joomlabamboo.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&view=topic&catid=677&id=114864&Itemid=215

and there is a JB doc on repackaging that may be helpful within this post.

Hope that helps

Oh my... I actually figured out most of this but with the same result.

Once I update the positions.json file, the backend layout control shows nothing below the "Load Layout" line.

What am I forgetting?

Hi Helen

Difficult to say without seeing the file code however when this sot of thing happens to me it is usually a typo or missing syntax, most likely closing syntax. That is were I would start looking.

Well, you'll never guess.

I was working in Text Edit so I switched to Text Wrangler and found my " " were a little curled and not straight. This was breaking it.

Thanks to both you guys! I will now be fiddling with this to see if I can get it to do what I want.

I undoubtedly will have more questions. :)

Good to hear you are on the right road again!

The framework is extremely flexible and can be modified without too much trouble once you get to grips with the logic, we are steadily building up styling and mods to use on our sites. Any hacks can be kept clean and simple with a little pre planning, whilst the framework stays fast. We really enjoy working with it and it fits well with our workflow and ethos.

Hi again,

I need a fresh pair of eyes and any input, please.

I have a bare-bones site up for this project. The logo with that triangle under it was a challenge.

I probably haven't thought this through all the way or am doing it the hard way, but if anyone could look and see if they think this will work or if I need to change something, I'd certainly appreciate it.

Home page: prettygoodhost.com/tlc/

other functioning page: prettygoodhost.com/tlc/site-map

What I don't like is the site over 1200px: the logo/triangle goes too far to the left. I would like to keep it stationary relative to the site but it needs to be absolute so it will float over the banner.

Thanks in advance!
Helen
