Compiling less to css no longer working after Xero update to v1.2

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I am currently migrating a website to Joomla 3.x. I have built it around the Xero template, which has been working well, albeit that the compiling less to css function has been slow, although I am using a low spec box to build the site.

Since upgrading the Xero template to v1.2 the compile less function continuously displays the Compiling less to css and saving your changes .... message and then hangs.

Any assistance on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi

Have there been any server changes in the mean time?

What do your server logs say?

Thanks

Hello Paul,

No server changes at all. The site is on a WAMP local box so I have full control of the environment.

Server log as follows -
127.0.0.1 - - [20/Feb/2015:00:01:12 +0000] "POST /sitedir/?template=xero&tmpl=ajax&function=ajax-compiler HTTP/1.1" 500 -

Any ideas why it errored out?

Hi Chris,
Will it work if you change the theme setting in the theme dropdown?
Thanks

Hi Anthony,

Tried a couple of different themes. Both errored out exactly the same way with Apache returning a code 500.

Hello Paul,

I'm using Wampserver 2.4 with the following components -

Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 latest update
Apache: 2.4.4
MySQL: 5.6.12
PHP: 5.4.16

Do let me know if there is any other info I can provide.

Hi Chris,

If you open chrome developer tools and check the console window do you see any error messages?

Do you have any firewall extensions installed?

Hi Chris,

Are you able to install a quickstart file version and compile on that?

Thanks

Hi Rob/Paul,

Rob - Firefox Developer Tools reports the following rendering errors when I load Template Manager: Edit Style > Xero.

I am using Kaspersky firewall. I have suspended it while running the less 'compiler' (which surely is an interpreter, not a compiler?) but it made no difference.

Paul - I'm new to Joomlabamboo. Can you confirm that I am right in understanding that quickstart installs Joomla 3.x + test data + the Xero template?

Hi Chris,

I meant firewall extensions istalled into Joomla such as admintools or rsfirewall.

I would call it a compiler as it compiles the less files into css files. The javascript version that runs in the browser is more of an interpreter.

I'm struggling to thing of anything else it could be.

Would you be able to create an akeeba backup file and send us a dropbox link through the ticket system?
We could then try testing it locally.

Rob

Hi Chris,

Regarding a quickstart - yep you are right

It does exactly this > "Installs Joomla 3.x + test data + the Xero template"

Cheers

Duh! Joomla firewall! I have no Akeeba extensions installed as this is a test build, which answers your first question. I'll install Akeeba and send over a backup via dropbox as you suggest.

Hi,

Did you try turning the firewall off?

If that is the issue then there is no need to send a backup.

As the site is local then you can safely disable the firewall while you are developing.

Paul/Rob,

I have installed the Xero Quickstart package. A quick test on the front end and all is well. I have then logged in as an administrator, opened the Xero - default site style and selected a new theme and then hit Save and compile theme. The same error occured.

Here is the last entry in the Apache access.log file -
127.0.0.1 - - [20/Feb/2015:17:22:01 +0000] "POST /xero-test-delme/?template=xero&tmpl=ajax&function=ajax-compiler HTTP/1.1" 500 -

Let me know what I can do to help resolve this.
