Problem on quickstart version ?

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi, i was able to install the package but are having a lot of troubles with various "no data received" errors in the browser. It had been great too have a package based on the previous Joomla version. I am running PHP 5.3.28 and have no chance to install the 5.4 version. I hade a test installation of "Inspire" and tried manually to install Lifestyle2 but i am not an experienced joomla user so it will take me a very long time to get a working demo environment. :-(

Hi Lars,

Is that in the Chrome browser?
There is a bug in the Chrome browser can cause this

php wise that is more than sufficient - its 5.3.10 which is the minimum specification

Hi,
Well i have tried both chrome and safari to no avail. I even tried IE at work but with the same result (cleared all cookies and cache).
I meet all server requirement but still receiving intermittent no-data-received errors. Basically i can only browse some articles using the backend. Trying to edit anything results in the described error. My server is a QNAP Nas running the latest version of their OS. I will try to restart the server this weekend and see if that can help.

Hi, I'm now back from my mountain trip.
I have done some investigations and the problems seems to have something to do with the "isis" administration template, when i use the "Hathor" template everything works as expected.
Here is some more information about the problem and solution.

Hi, i have done some more testing and i am still having some "ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE" i will try to do some more investigations this week. I am only having a small site which is used to share photos with my three sisters so it's not a an urgent problem to be solved.

Hi,
Here is an update of the problem.
I decided to completely delete the installation from the server and drop the related database. After that i loaded the quickstart package to the server and performed the installation. At this time everything seems to work correct except for the process that check if the joomla installation and extensions are up to date.
See the attached images.

Hi Lars,

In global configuration, try turning error reporting to maximum and then try and view the page again to see if you get an error message.

Hi, i turned on maximum error reporting and received this message when clicking on the link.
Fatal error: Class 'JHttpTransport._stream' not found in /share/MD0_DATA/Web/Lifestyle/libraries/joomla/http/factory.php on line 90

When i uploaded the files to the server i used the synchronization function of my backup software and not FTP, perhaps this can be the problem?

Regards

Hi Lars,

It looks like there might be some corrupt core files.

Try re-syncing or just upload and overwrite the core joomla files by ftp (minus the installation directory).

I think that should fix the problem.

Hi,
i have deleted the old installation and database and uploaded the quickstart package using FTP.
After installation the first problem is back with intermittent no-data-receive errors :-(
I will try to delete everything and once again use my synchronization software to upload and install the site and see if the intermittent errors will disappear as it did last time.

Which directories contains the joomla core modules you mentioned?

Regards
Lars

Hi Lars,

By overwriting the core I meant to download a full copy of the same version of Joomla as your site and then overwrite all files in the package other than the installation folder. Just to make sure none of the core files were missing or corrupt.
If you unpack the quickstart on the server then that shouldn't be needed.

For the no data received error, it sounds more like a hosting/browser issue. Do you have any caching mechanisms running on your server like apc or memcached?
Try disabling all caching in Joomla and the hosting (any special rules in htaccess?).

All caching in joomla is disabled. My suspicion is that the apache server and PHP bundle in my QNAP is the root cause of the problem. I will do some more testing.
I will we back with more information later :-)
