OK just a few more problems Im having with getting menus and modules to display in the grids and also the hikashop products display will not work from the main menu with a sub-menu also associated with it.

In the template layout settings are the positions set to be published?

This article covers how to disable positions but I think you need to enable some positions that those modules are published to
