I am wondering if it is possible to integrate a Search icon into the main menu.

Like a Search Glass, and when clicked the search field is displayed?

There is the magnifiyng glass available as a font -awesome icon

Just trying this in a maxbiz2 template

I created a text separator link with the link text being a   (non breaking space character)

Then in the mega menu assigned the icon above to the link and added a sub menu item and in that I loaded a search module

The only snag with this is you will need to add some css to remove any drop down background image for this item only - which you would do using the link class number
