still doing it to .. when ever I log-in and get to the user page, I upload my avatar, but still end-up with the 403 error.

no, it is not. It uploads the picture and I can even resize it, but the problem happens during the saving. The file name is "PDPSgreytone2 cropped sq.jpg". I removed all the spaces and tried again: www.joomlabamboo.com/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&tab=getAvatarsTab#getAvatarsTab

Not sure why you are seeing that error.

Does it happen in the avatar tab when you hit the update profile link underneath the avatar not he profile page?

I "chose file" and select the picture, then "Next >>"

On www.joomlabamboo.com/index.php?option=com_comprofiler&tab=getAvatarsTab#getAvatarsTab I then see the picture (see attachment 1) and the press "Next >>"

and then I'll get the error (attachment 2)

It is still not working ..

.. also tried Safari ( 5.1.5 ) and Firefox 11. I'm using Chrome 18 (OS X Lion).

.. also tried a completely different image.

No 'luck'
