I can't be the only one that would prefer to actually see the icons on this page

Yes you are right - I'll suggest we add a link to a demo site where the examples are viewable e.g.

bambootheme.com/showcase/sep15/template-features/module-overview/zen-shortcodes

I think I should explain with the docs using the grav cms they can't render

Although many people when we had icons asked can we have the syntax instead

I was one of those. I assume it would be too much work to maintain both the code and graphic.

Oh, its possible..... but it could be too much more work to maintain.

Fontawesome example of both code and icon: fortawesome.github.io/Font-Awesome/icons/
