healing a self-inflicted 500 wound.

it looks like i tried to install something meant for J3 into a j2.5 site. I'm getting the error
500 - JHtml: :jquery not supported. File not found.

Stackoverflow says to find the file that loads JQuery so I can add in a script that forces it to load either in no-conflict, or from google API's. Problem is, I don't know what file that is! I can;t reach either the front or back end, but I can get in via ftp.

Template is shop ignition, J2.5.8

Do you remember which extension did you try to install when this happened?

the plugin dev got back to me with a list of files to delete... and also to note that he's surprised Joomla even let the procedure get started! He adjusted his component accordingly - previous versions supported 2.5 but this one doesn't.

so all is well now.

I can't successfully back up and restore now... the site front end works, back end has lost all it's styling.

the front end reports
jos-Error: Application Instantiation Error

followed by a bunch of these
JFactory :: getApplication() @ /home/joomla/public_html/dev-site/index.php:27
JApplication :: getInstance() @ /home/joomla/public_html/dev-sitelibraries/joomla/factory.php:102

etc.

Can I (should I) reinstall the template or framework?

Current setup is
Shop Ignition 2.2.1
Joomla! 2.5.14
Zen Grid Framework 2.3.1
PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.10

I'd first check on the files you deleted.

Secondly, to make sure all Joomla core files are ok you can upload everything via ftp from the same version of the installer package, minus the installation folder (if you upload this you will get the install screen and if you follow it it will wipe your db and overwrite the configuration file).

If there is still a problem then there are some uncleaned files left in the install.

You didn't mention the name of the extension. That might help to find out what the problem is.

Thanks Rob. The developer is in the back end of the site checking things out. He is a responsible developer whose product I've used for a very long time. I've never had a problem before. I'm sure he'll let me know what I've done wrong.
