Maps2

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi There:
I am having a problem inserting a map into a site that I am developing... I am using the Portal Template for the site... here is the page that is causing the problem...

nicommunityservices.ca/index.php/about-us

The one map on the page is an image... not JBMaps... it is the second map that I am trying to replace the for the first one...

This might be a long discussion... !!!

Cheers,
Tony

Tony,

Was having the save issue (front & back end views) with Maps2 and Rob fixed it by adding an API entry box within the Advanced tab of the module settings. Maps2 was just upgraded a few days ago (docs.joomlabamboo.com/changelogs/maps2-changelog) with this added option. According to Rob, all older displaying maps are not or should not be effected... just new one.

With this you will have to apply for a new Google API and request for an approval. Also, go through ALL of the options/settings because Google has established a number of new requirements. Word of caution... the more options you request could delay the approval process!

It took me almost an hour to nav my way through this process and believe me, a few choice words were expressed during this process. Google has really tighten their APIs making it a lot tougher just to launch & display their maps. What a shame!

Good luck moving forward with this process...

Hi Ed - Paul:

I see there are two downloads for maps on JoomlaBamboo. One is Maps2 and the other is JBMaps...

Is Maps two updated to include the functions you mention... I thought I had uploaded the latest Maps module this morning...

Tony

Hi Paul:

Just uploaded the latest (at least I think it was since I did it this very morning) JB Maps2; and I didn't see any reference to Google API...

Have I not looked in the right place.

Hi Ed:
A bit of a nuisance... but the maps are great.
I cannot find any where to create Markers...
Maybe something wrong with my install...

I'll work on that too...

Tony,

A number of us are starting to program website maps using Open Streets (www.openstreetmap.org) because of the Google API restrictions.

Here is a working demo of how Open Streets looks like using Leaflet;

Tony,

Like Google maps, you can embed the map code directly into your content pages (hoping your text editor does not strip the code) or wait until programmers start developing Joomla extensions to use (like Maps2).

My program is about 90% complete BUT... Open Streets does not currently have ALL the mapping features and locations that we enjoy having with Google Maps. It will always be a trade off I guess!

Hi Ed:
I just uploaded a module called OSModul that is made for Joomla... here is the URL for downloading this:
extensions.joomla.org/profile/extension/maps-a-weather/maps-a-locations/osmodul

Is this what I should use? I am trying it now...

I am using 'module in an article' to put the maps in the article...

Make sense?

Cheers,

Tony,

That should work or you can use the Joomla! native {loadposition} tag to show a module within your content.
