Hi Paul - I've had a look at this, and it's a bit frightening :-(
Am I right in thinking this .htaccess content should be copied in full to my site?
What about Admintools rewriting my .htaccess?

I'm sorry if this is getting boring, but from my end it's been really helpful.

I've speeded up my client's site significantly by installing JCH and Kraken and generally following tips and advice that you, Ian and Rob have passed on to me together with various analytics sites.

And so far, I haven't broken the site, even by adding that code to .htaccess

I'm even running my pro-practice.tv site through Cloudflare - so far with no problem.

So I think this might be my last request in this thread…

Github boilerplate .htaccess - safe to uses as is, or do I need to be far cleverer, and tailor it specifically for my site?

Thanks again to all three of you,

Ian

Hi Ian

We add rules to the .htaccess file via admintools Pro.

We are selective with the rules, so do not use of them from the boilerplate link (just looked), some are already added via Admintools if I remember rightly. The .htaccess rules can be server/site specific so initially I would consider each individually and look at the results, checking nothing broke along the way.

We use JCH on most Joomla sites along with .htaccess rules we have developed over time, sometimes by knowledge and research, some times by trial and error.

Good to hear you have speeded up the site, along with optimising the images on upload should contain the matter in the future.

Regards Ian

Thanks Ian

I'd echo the .htaccess rules being server/site specific - take little steps

Cheers

Thanks for this guys - still a bit unclear.

Are the contents of the boilerplate file desirable, elements of which be adopted unless it breaks things?

For instance, the "Expires caching" was recommended by one of the analysis sites I looked at, so it seems a good idea to use it...

Or is it there as a source of possible fixes, only to be considered if things go wrong?

Hi Paul - sorry, but I'm still going.
There's a big slider on the home page, image size 940 x 330.
When I analyse the page I'm advised that this size is not specified, and that it should be to speed up loading.
The image is the correct size. In the slider settings I have specified resize image exact and specified 940 x 330, but I'm still getting the same result.
I don't suppose it's that important, but it would be good to clean it up.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Ian

Some thoughts from Wales.

What extension is driving the "slider"?
If you are sizing exactly you may not need to resize in the module.
Some extension do not add sizes to cached images when they display them, so to enable this you would need to hack the module code to get the sizes added in the code output.
Personally I don't see this as a big issue, a case of diminishing returns, and different tests apply different criteria in my experience.

Hi Ian - it's Zentools.
As you say, I don't think it's an issue. Probably best left alone :-)
Thanks for your thoughts.
Looks like we're in for a rough ride again today - batten down the hatches!
Thanks again for your support,

Just back from my walk and it is still blowing a hoolie here but the river banks are holding for now! Storm has just rolled over the mountains so should start raining again shortly.

Must be time for JB UK to relocate to Oz for the winter.....

Oh dear.
Our shed roof is in trouble and I'm scratched to pieces trying to save it.
We're expecting the worst between 5 and 7 this evening - 70mph :-(

And my daughter's in hospital in labour…

And the car has to go in tomorrow for a new bit…

So we'll be off to England on Thursday to see her, if we survive the night…

I think I prefer fighting with Joomla :-)

Stay safe,

Ian

Thank you both :-)

It's a girl, Anna Lynne, 8Lb 1oz, much easier birth than the first one (Joseph) and mother and baby are doing fine.

Grandchild number 5 would you believe.

I'll get the car fixed today and we'll go to see them tomorrow and stay for a couple of days.

And the shed is still standing - just!

Thanks again,

Ian
