joomla 3.3.6 migration problem

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi - I've just updated J2.5.28 to 3.3.6 and although the front end appears fine, the back end seems broken - I'm missing the toolbar at the top of each section, and I can't save changes to articles at all.
I've looked around on Google, but can't see anything.
The site is www.branchwood.co.uk.
Has anyone any ideas? (I do have a backup of the 2.5 site)
Thanks
Ian

Hi Ian,

Just checking but you did clear the browser cache?

Hi Paul - thanks for getting back to me.
Yes, cleared the cache, but it made no difference.
I've tried it with Safari, Chrome and Firefox, and they're all the same.
I've had a good look on Google, but I can't find any problem quite like this.
The technical requirements are fine - I have another 3.3.6 site running on the same server.
And I think I followed the Joomla migration instructions to the letter.
But you know me :-(

What errors do you see in the console window?

Have you checked the database via the extension manager?

Hi Paul - not sure what you mean by 'console'

I can't fix the database in extension manager - I can't see that option. Screenshot attached.

Many thanks

Ian

Hmm. This is the problem - all the admin section appears to be broken.
Individual components appear to be working.
Thanks

Hmm - I'm on a Mac, and I don't get the result I expected.
Should I try this on the PC?
Thanks

This covers the steps to access the web developer tools

joomlabamboo.com/docs/getting-started/how-to-use-the-computed-panel-in-the-chrome-inspector

You can get to it via the menu icon as described here

Hi Ian,

I would check for any plugins you have installed that might affect the administration area which aren't compatible with Joomla 3.

Clear and purge the cache and disable any caching options.

If not, maybe try reinstalling joomla by uploading the files from the latest zip package (minus the installation folder).

Hi Rob - thanks for this. I don't think I have any third party plugins installed - I checked through as part of the pre-migration instructions.

However, I'll look again, and then tackle the cache as you suggest. A tomorrow job now…

Thanks again for the advice, and I'll let you know how I get on.

Hi again.
The control panel is so corrupt I can't purge the cache although I have cleaned it. The options to disable the cache also seem to have disappeared.
Just about to upload all the files from the latest Joomla 3 package, but won't this overwrite some of my installations? Or is everything held in the database.
Thanks

If you follow Rob's instructions you will be fine as long as you haven't hacked any of the core joomla files
