Migrating from 1.5x to 2.5x. Which template to use?

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I have a client whose website was created using Zen SimpleShop on 1.5.22. I really need to get it up to 2.5x or higher. I don't see this template anymore. Which current template is closest to her original template so I have the least amount of work after the migration?

Super nervous about doing this transfer....

Is it using any ecommerce software?

I'm assuming you are taking a copy of the site and working away from the main site - e.g. different domain or on localhost?

there is no ecommerce on the site. I plan to do this on a sub domain on the site.

Also, since I'm doing this should I go to joomla 3 now and bypass 2.5?

I'd say yes moving directly to J3

Do you have a link for the site?

I have several sites.

Here's one: www.passionfororder.com

Here's another: www.mytexashillcountry.com

They both use different templates.

I have a couple more too - unfortunately.

Hi Vicky,

It may be worth waiting for the next template release for passionfororder

The site is quite simple design wise and would fit the new upcoming starter template

You would have to do a little css work but nothing major by the look of it

This is the currently layout - its quite simple but with a little styling would look quite similar

Its mobile friendly and with lots of speed related features

With Newscycle we are going to update it but we don't have a time frame for it

Shopfront is on the possible list at the moment

Are you under pressure from the host or site owner?

Site owner, but I can wait on this site (newscycle). They will be ok with a delay for a few months.

I have another one on Zen Simple Shop and they really want it up to compliance quickly. Can you recommend a similar template for this one?

Again its pretty straight forward - so the upcoming template would work well for this

The speed features would be a good selling point to the client

We are hoping to release the template this week

What you need to be aware of is extensions that may not be supported on J3 when you migrate content across

That can cause problems
