Redesign again:

www.australien-fuer-anfaenger.com

It took more time, but I think this could really be the final version. The page is also working now with IE 7. I changed the typography, images, navigation ... everything.

I hope you like my sketch total conversion.

Hey Seb,

Couldn't access the site to see the redesign. Let me know when it's back up.

Cheers,
Jason

Hey Jason,

the page should work now. Maybe you have to clear your browser's cache.

Cheers

Forget about it. Probably a glitch on my system. Can see it now :)

I can see a lot of refinement in the design elements Seb. I'm sure you spent a lot of time on it.

Looks great. You could try optimizing the file size for coffee.png and logo.png
They could take a while to load on a slow connection.

Cheers,
Jason.

Hey Jason,

Thank you so much for your feedback. I tried to compress these two imagefiles with OptiPNG (a image compressor for windows). I know they are a little bit to big (each around 180kb), but if i convert them to PNG-8 they getting fringy and JPEG won't work because i need them with a transparent background. This is maybe far a little bit far away of a perfect webdesign.

You and your colleagues helped me a lot in the past. Also I learned a lot from joomlabamboo. But my girlfriend wasn't happy to see me hours in front of my computer ;)

cheers

Hi Seb,

You *could* (girlfriend allowing) experiment with combining the graphic elements with the background and, instead of having a small repeating background image, just create a very large no-repeat background which contained coffee and logo images.

Just a thought....

OR, see what you can cut out elsewhere to claw back precious Kb from something else (mootools and caption.js are my first targets, followed by the css.)

Hey Seth,

It's difficult to make the right decision. I tried out your suggestion with a bigger background and within the coffee.png and logo.png. These was working good, but the repeated background wasn't looking so fine.

What do you think about this solution wich could be found on my testserver:
testseite2.australien-fuer-anfaenger.de/

In comparison to:
www.australien-fuer-anfaenger.de

The new version on my testserver focus more on content, less scrolling and I saved with these solution 250kb.

What do you like more?

Cheers

Seb

Hi Seb,

I have to say, the new one is working well for me - It has a more 'integrated' feel to it. I like it.

If it was me, the 250Kb saving would certainly swing my choice that way. It is a big difference in page load...

Thank you Seth,

I'm of the same opinion. I reworked the Header now and you can see the result at: www.australien-fuer-anfaenger.de
I also tried to make a steam for the coffee cup, but I know it isn't perfect.

The header has now 380kb wich isn't the best but it is much better as before.

Cheers,

Seb
