Installing templates in Joomla! is relatively easy.
1. The most direct way is to goto Installers >> Templates - site.
2. Browse for your template in the zip file.
3. Click upload.
4. Set template as default or assign to a menu item.
This is a good way to use your template if you dont want to make any changes to the css or html offline. But if you try to change or edit the template files you will run into some write permissions issues. You can get around this by simply changing the directory permissions in your ftp program or via joomla! xplorer. A way to get around this sort of messing around is just to upload directly into the template folder for your site. Your new template will automatically be listed in the template list and all you need to do then is assign it or make it the default template.
