A few years ago a site I hosted on a shared server was deleted by someone who had gained entry via a hole on an unrelated site on the server. Being fairly new to web development and to Joomla I had no idea of where to start and what to look for. Steve from Alledia recommended Tom as the best in the Joomla security business and after my initial contact with him via skype it was only a matter of hours before my site was back up and running - fully loaded, locked down and ready for action.
That was a few years ago now, I've said "bye bye" to the server in question and now I thoroughly research servers that I use and tend to get a string of recommendations from people I trust before I commit to them. A lot has changed in the Joomla landscape as well - Joomla 1.0 is in the last few weeks before its official end of life, Joomla 1.5 is in its eleventh iteration and Joomla 1.6 is just around the corner - so I figured that now was a good time to catch up with Tom to get some idea of the challenges that face Joomla users in the present climate as well as some tips on how best to secure your Joomla site.

It seems like an age since I promised that we would be redesigning and rebooting the Joomla Bamboo website but after ten mockups it seems Im no closer to deciding on a new design for the site. Whats that old adage about a plumber always having a leaking tap? It seems like its harder for a web designer to redesign their own website rather than some one elses. So in lieu of a new design Ive just published a new download area that should make downloading templates and their extensions a lot easier.

Do you like our templates, but don't know how to install Joomla or our quick install packs? Or would you just prefer someone else to do it?

As you may or may not know Im rebuilding the entire Joomla Bamboo site from the ground up and as a part of the rebuild I procured the services of Paul Hassing to do some of the copywriting. I first met Paul on Twitter via someone elses tweet and a quick look at his bio made me want to know more. In a matter of a few clicks I was deep in conversation with Paul, finding out what he does and more importantly how he could help me. Most of our templates come with quickstart packages that are as easy as setting up a standard installation of Joomla. Different server setups can often have different requirements for setting up Joomla and its probably best to search the Joomla.org forums to get an overview of the type of server environment that Joomla requires, but lets assume you already have the server set up and you are ready to install A JB template plus the demo content you see on our demo sites.
