I am using Grid 4, which I installed with demo content, then morphed into my own content.

I upgraded Joomla! to 3.6.5 a few days ago. I'm not sure if that is the problem, but now I cannot open any of my zentools modules in the backend. I just tried reinstalling the Zentools 2 stuff, but the symptoms remain the same.

The module opens for a few seconds, then the screen goes blank except for a drop-down box in top right corner that contains a few... seemingly random things, and the page re-load just spins and spins and spins.

The page displays on the front end.

You need to clear the browser cache

There is differences to module manager following the Joomla update
