Best way for me to transition to Medica

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I have a website built quite a while ago using a (not so good) freebie template;
www.esolsea.com
i have decided on using Medica and would like to know how to preserve much of the current content and whether it is best to use the quickstart version of the template

Hi

Are you migrating the site to a new Joomla version? J1.5 to J3+ or J2.5 to J3+

Cheers

Hi,

The template shouldn't make any difference to the content

You would need to publish modules to new module positions that exist in the new template

You may need to change the frontpage to show or not depending on your requirements

You would need to use a standalone template version e.g. not a quickstart

A quickstart would need a clean database and empty folder

I'd suggest installing the quickstart to some alternative disk space or a local server so you have something to reference

Hi Thanks for that.

Should I set up a Medica sandbox using quickstart and use the standard Medica DL with Extensions for the existing site?

Yes that is exactly it

1. One site with the quickstart
2. Real site with the empty template installed together with all the extensions from the template download page

Make sure any plugins are enabled in plugin manager once installed
