I have been experiencing problems using zentools 2 for at least several weeks on multiple sites and have moved away from it as I haven't had time to figure out a solution, even though I would prefer using it.

Here is what happens:
I create a new zentools2 module and it opens fine
I select a layout
Then I "Select Content Source" and the module crashes, it just disappears

Right now I am working on wamp and can't share the issue, but if there isn't a likely cause that comes to mind, I will use one of my sites to replicate the problem
I am using Joomla 3.6.5 and php version 7, but I believe the issue happens besides that

Are you using the latest version of the module?

Do you get the same on wamp and on a live server?

regarding "...but I believe the issue happens besides that" - do you see the same on different php versions? e.g. php56 and php7

Now that I know this is not a common issue, I will start from scratch and get back to you after I more carefully document the issue on a live site. Thank you for now.

Very vaguely I do remember an issue with a conflict due to jquery ui being installed by another extension

It did break zentools extension but that was a long time ago

If it crops up on the live site as well can you create a ticket for the site and we can take a look

What was the outcome to this?

I've just downloaded and installed the latest version of the module and am having the exact same problem - using Joomla 3.8.1 PHP 5.6.31

I've used this on a previous site on an earlier version of joomla and without issue.

Hoping to clear this up asap so i can start to use the module.

Do you see any kind of error in the browser console window?

Are you installing this into a quickstart?

Do you have the plg_ajax_zentools2 enabled?

No error is displayed - after attempting to create or edit a module, selecting Layout type (several tried) and then selecting a content source (several tried) the Zentools module edit window closes abruptly and the default joomla admin console screen displays.

I don't believe it was a quick start package for the joomla install - but i can't be sure. How would this affect zentools?

Yes, both zentools plugins are enabled - ajax and system
