Images for Gallery does not see pass one level of directory

Trying to use the Gallery feature so I can selectively choose my pictures. It seems however that I am not given a choice of directories pass 1 level deep from IMAGES, for example, images\dirA is availabe, but images\dirA\subdirb is not. Is this the case? or am I doing something wrong here? Thanks.
