Zentools2 & sh404sef Gremlins?

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi JB, I have been going around in circles on this one for about a day... time ask a question on it as it is really strange.

Using Zentools2 and sh404sef:

1) I purged the old SH404sef cache to rebuild correct urls for the Zentools2 module/s and then all the links from ZT2 went to the home page (but not with a 404).
Investigating the urls of each, they started with index.php?option=com_content&Itemid=101&catid=... That item id is for the Home menu item, and it must be picking it up from the ZT2 display on the home page. And similar strange Itemid's for any page the ZT2 module appears. Any thoughts on why?

I have manually 'fixed' the urls via phpmyadmin but any new item added to ZT2 will do the same thing.

2) With urls fixed, I then noticed some very strange display in the breadcumb module (example here)

The Breadcrumb appears as: (with explanation of what they are)

Home
Travel & Touring (menu item)
Touring Routes - Aus (menu item)
Travel & Adventures (category)
Touring Routes (category)
Darling River Run (article)

I have never seen it display categories after menu's (on many other site I manage), and it was fine before using ZT2 (and Build.r), so I am guessing it might be related

3) Then even stranger, I know in the past this could be corrected (so it does not display the categories) by creating a menu for each article, which I did. The page breadcrumb displayed fine, but it creates additional url's to the 2 parent categories as well: i.e: the same categories that were previously in the breadcrumb.

  • Darling River Run/Travel & Adventures

Any idea how that is happening? Is it possible Zenmenu is conflicting somehow?

I thought initially it may have been purely sh404sef, but as it is not happening on other similar sites I have, I thought I would float it here.

Morning Paul,

Use everything up to date.

Last night I went through and did a rebuild on all menu items and categories and then did a test by adding two dummy articles:
  1. In in the same sub-category as the others
  2. In the parent category

The first one was ok in terms of not going to home page but as the article itself; but still with both categories in the Breadcrumbs after the tow menu items.

The second one opened not as an article, but the parent category layout with Zentools2 module.

Very weird.

hmm very weird

Have you checked with weeblr folks?

This is an extension I'm really wary off as it can go really wrong

Zentools is a module so has no effect on routing / urls so it does sound like something wrong with sh404sef

Personally I have known issues with modules not being published due to sh404 sef and redirecting home pages to nowhere but nothing breadcrumb related

Hi Paul, yes was thinking similar regarding it is a module, but also realise that joomla modules (latest, most read, etc) render urls ok.

If linking direct, same thing happens regarding categories in Breadcrumbs.

I might check in with weeblr; and report back if they have any solution to it.

Thanks again.

Any caching enabled on the site or server?

Does sound like weeblr might be able to help

Hi Paul, tried with caching on and off.

What is interesting, which I have just noticed, is that if the item, in Zentools2 is 2 categories deep, it adds the categories in the breadcrumb, but if it is 1 deep, it doesn't.)
