Intro images don't appear in Safari

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Using Safari 5.1.10: When our article intros display for any category, the intro images don't appear; rather, a blank space appears (see attached image 1). The blank remains even if I refresh the page.

If I click on any of the (linkable) intro titles, navigating to the article itself, the article and its image display normally (see attached image 2).

Then, if I back-navigate to the category page, all the intro images appear (see attached image 3).

This happens for any category. The problem recurs even after I clear the browser's cache and/or delete cookies.

The console shows no warning or error messages for these occurrences. The problem does not occur in Firefox.

Hi Jim,

Do you have lazyload enabled? - do the images display if that is enabled?

Cheers

Paul,

We do have lazyload enabled.

I forgot to mention that the images don't display even after I page down, or jump to the next page.

Hi Jim,
Can you attach the images?

What does the source content say? I do recall an issue with this years ago in that version of Safari which proved to be a cache issue on my local machine. Can you check on another computer to see if that shows the images correctly.
Thanks

Anthony,

The content not displaying consists of 112 x 112 pixel jpeg images. I've attached several representatives.

I experienced this initially on a MacBook. I've now tried it on a Mac Mini, with the same result.

Hi Jim,

Do you have a link to the site where we can take a look?

Hi Jim,

Can you quickly test the the site using a default template like Protostar to see if the issue is still there?

Thanks

Hi Jim,

We've done some digging and it is an acknowledged issue with this version of safari

discussions.apple.com/thread/3796427

There are a few suggestions on there you might want to try

Paul, when I switched the template to Protostar, the intro images displayed normally in Safari (see attached).

What now?

Hi Jim,

Unfortunately all we can suggest I think is using a different browser - perhaps Chrome?

With protostar is this consistent?

Anthony tested it and had the same problem

Yes, I can view the page in a different browser. Sorry, but that's beside the point.

For us, the issue is that the display doesn't work for our users who employ the affected browser.

I humbly suggest that--from my perspective--the display works correctly with the old Responsive template, but is "broken" with the new Responsive template.

Sorry, Paul I don't understand. Consistent how?

>Anthony tested it and had the same problem<

Are you saying Anthony has verified that the problem lies with the Responsive template?

Hi Jim,

I'll check with Anthony again when he is online - he tried on an old laptop and it wasn't consistent in Protostar in displaying the images

Hi Jim,

As per the thread mentioned above it seems like a cache issue related to this version of Safari.

I found an old laptop with Safari 5.1 and can replicate with a default install. When I use Protostar on pages that have not been cached I get the same issue. This is what Paul meant by consistent.

You need to visit a page in Protostar that has not yet been cached.

Thanks

Anthony,

I could not duplicate what you've reported.

I set the template to Protostar and set the main menu in visible grid.

I then deleted cookies and cleared the browser's cache. The browser still displayed the intro images. (E.g., in test.chigov.com/chicago/city-council.html .)

I also tried quitting the browser, restarting, and again deleting cookies and clearing the cache. The images still displayed.

I currently have test.chigov.com set to the Protostar template.

I'm thinking to leave it set to Protostar so you can diagnose further. Should I bother to do this?
