How to force grid to load

On the image grid borrowed from the lifestyle2 quickstart, I converted to reading from content items....but until i scroll the page, the grid doesn't load, even with lazyload off, and whether or not jquery loads.

is there a jb-certified method for triggering the grid to fire on page load?

looks like the problem occurs when zoom or fade effects are applied. when i disable these, the grid works on load.

EDIT: the noresize mod class suffix was possibly the real culprit.
