Customise K2 items

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

I'm in the process of trying to customize the way my items appear (specifically: trying to get the titles to appear below the images). Should I be working in novus>html>com_k2>novus>category.php, >category_item.php and >item.php or is there somewhere else?
Changes I make to these items aren't reflected in items in any view.

Basically, I'm trying to get my K2-based blog to look as close as possible to the demo at a client's request.

The images appear in individual item view thanks to your timely help in the other thread (I should have found that solution myself, must have missed it in my forum searching).

Here's the site: www.asandiford.com/cwbjoomla/index.php/blog

The client is asking for the item images to appear in the category listing as they appear on the demo landing page (Image above the title, primarily). I've been trying out different approaches in php files within the com_k2 directory under Novus but nothing I do there is reflected in the pages.

You are using the common layout for zenkit is that right?

If rather than common you select the Novus category does that work better for you?

Novus does not appear in the dropdown in Category item layout for the 'blog' category. I've set it to 'default' which is closer to what I'm looking for, however, the title still appears above the image.

-- Use Default --
equip (a custom category of mine for another part of the site)
invest (another custom category)
blog
carousel
common

Then you can see the rest in the screen grab.

Was it the quickstart you initially installed or a standard template?

Just so I can test it

A standard template. I'm working on integrating into an existing (though still under construction on a test server) site. I would be happy to provide you access to the administration side if it would be of assistance.

Can you take a backup of the site and re-install the template

Don't delete anything just re-install the template via the standard Joomla installer

I've just tried this locally from scratch and the novus template is available as first on the list

Just tried it and no success. Same list appears. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Novus with the same result. I wonder if it may be something related to one of my other overrides.

Are you able to rename the overrides to test?

Yes, I've just done so. Renaming the folders in templates/<othertemplatename>/html/com_k2/templates changes their names in the dropdown menu but does not reveal novus.

I would be happy with being able to customize one of the existing novus options (blog or common for example) but I don't know which file would need to be duplicated, renamed and edited.

If you check this page on the demo site this is approximately what you are trying to achieve?

bambootheme.com/showcase/may14/k2-categories-2/k2-categories

With that do you need any of the overrides?

Further poking around reveals that I cannot see any template files from within the novus templates directory in the drop-down list.

Edit: It appears as though only the overrides from the main site theme (created by me) and the ones added directly to components/com_k2/templates by the zenkit plugin installation appear in the drop down. When I add anything to the novus/html/com_k2/templates directory, it does not appear in the drop down.

That is approximately what I'm trying for, yes. The client saw this page bambootheme.com/showcase/may14/ and decided that was the look they wanted (title text below image particularly).

I very much appreciate your time on this.
