E-Commerce

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi there

i need some advice
I need to know which would be the best template to use
The customers must be able to choose products and order online
not buy just order.

I can use one of your E-commerce template but
I tried to download
NEW LIFESTYLE - Feb 2014
Quickstart package
but the file gave me errors when I tried to upload via cpanel

and I've tried to un achive the file and tried to upload via ftp
but gives a unarchive error as well

and I'm also scared to use it seeing that the template is 2014.

otherwise can I use buildr? but then how would I get the online shop section
do I upload a extension with this and then which is the best online shop extension to use?

Please advise

thanks Martie

Hi Martie,

The Rasa2 has support for hikashop and is a newer template

With newlifestyle it looks like the zip is either not being full downloaded for some reason or during the download the file is being corrupted

If you are still interested in downloading newlifestyle get back to me and we can sort something out

Cheers

From past shop building experience, too many to care, the site template is never the issue it's the shop andit's layout flexibility

I've moved all my clients to MijoShop

Firstly the flexibility with the layout templates and ability to structure the categories etc and the one page payment process. Multi page leads to basket abandonment

Secondly is you can build the shop contents in a spreadsheet and import it
Upgrade prices is that easy

One shop I assisted with has 1,000 items ... would not even think of doing that or having clients do their own maintenance.

Hi Andrew,

With moving to Mijoshop - did you move from Hikashop?

I've never used Mijoshop myself

No I didn't Paul

One was brand new and the others were imports from Magento and ??? can't remember

It took me 5 minutes yesterday to update the pricing for 600 items on the 1,000 item shop.
Open CSV and find/replace, save, import back into system

Could be done via find/replace in a downloaded .sql but this is way simpler.

Though I've never used MijoShop, I've looked at it often.

My usual cart is J2Store - which also has one-page checkout. My latest build is Buildr, forking from Koan. (You can do *anything* in Buidr.)

The most important thing is mostly right at the top - the ability to maintain separate website and cart menus.

Now I will have to look at Mijo again. :)

Thanks Blueshift

Just wondered do you have an example site you can share at the moment?

Just curious - how do you find building e-commerce sites?

I've built only a couple and it is like pulling teeth :)

Had a quick checkout of J2Store when I set up the multi item store.

The game changer for me with MijoShop was as follows

1. One page checkout
2. Import via csv
3. Import via csv

With 1000 items and photos, descriptions, colours and lengths it was never going to happen.
The csv import is a free addon from memory
The woman running the store isn't a tech and she's had zero issues

Blueshift love your work .... well done

I love the challenge of building ecom. The key is finding someone better suited to *populating* the site.

@Andrew: J2Store has all of that. But I think Mijo was scratch built with that in mind. J2Store began as a simpler concept of using articles as store items, and has evolved into a full fledged cart. (Based on some of my support requests, they developed several features just because I asked for them.)

Agree Blueshift
I'm not a real fan of the population bit and when a close friend said she had a little shop to put up I gave in
Reality set in when I discovered 1,000 photos, resizing, KSU's, and so on I was taken for a ride.

Bulk adding was what I went looking for and I was stuck till a fellow J! dev told me about MijoShop. Just love it for what I've been doing since

I keep asking JB to integrate ZenTools with J2Store (hello? @Paul? @Rob?) which would solve that problem! Since J2Store uses Articles, I've taken to using DropPics for the image grids, and Joomla category items for front page - completely eliminates the resizing.

(Nothing beats someone with the temperament to do the iterative work though. One person I know it ain't is me.)
