Proposal for customized module

zentoolsIf you use Zentools please post a review at the Joomla! Extensions Directory.

Hi all, hi Joomlabamboo crew

I need a solution that includes the following features:

a) a form (option expandable)
Three selection fields of a unit, a field with text (pre filled), a field that shows the final sum based on the selection, a field for name and a field for email. Submit button

b) besides these form fields should be a larger field showing the current price of the unit

c) validation (Ajax preferred)

d) a variable logic: upon submit via the button the unit price has to increase according to a rule that can be changed. Like e.g. a guest count +1 but with a different logic.

Also the final sum field is variable based on the unit number of choice e.g. 3*unit = x (final sum)

A website link with a working example will be made available.

My feeling says it should be a module in order to embed it various times in different items. I have Ajax contact from ideal extensions which could probably be easily modified.
The module should work in Joomla 1.5 and 2.5 alike.

Please PM me with a proposal. The proposal should include the estimated time, the price and how quick you could realize the solution. An outline of your approach how to realize the outcome is appreciated (e.g.: I will modify the …).

Please note, in order to avoid wrong expectations: If the price for the solution is outweighing the expected benefit I reserve the right to not realize it since it is an experiment.

Thanks a lot
MM

You might like to have a look at this site: fabrikar.com/
I have created something similar to what you are after with their component (there was a learning curve).

Yeah I'd second Fabrik as a good option for you, it is free so you could try to build the required thing yourself. If I'll send you a rough quote through if you think you need some assistance.

Cheers

The following user(s) said Thank You: MaMuster
Thanks for all the support and comments.

Some of my thoughts:

Why J1.5? Well long story short. It is a working site and the logic "never change something that works" prevails "do update". Furthermore, it is a time issue.

Fabrikar looks cool, but I wonder if there is an easier solution since I try to have as few components as possible in a site - they all need updates ...

@Rowan: Answered your mail
Thanks

Just to chip in a little

Regarding 1.5 web hosts are very keen for folks to upgrade to newer versions

I've known hosts refuse to continue to host 1.5 sites or issue a dealine for upgrading

A site I hosted was hacked and despite being fixed the host would not allow a 1.5 site back online

just something to be aware of

with reference to updating from 1.5 up
Website Software Security

As with all software the developers are consistantly improving functionality and security this is no different to whether it be mobile phone operating systems and applications. Computer software and operating systems and most importantly website software as it is connected to the web 24/7/365. If you think that all website are safe and not under attack from hackers and other nasties then think again, we see the logs of all the attemps to access the websites some times they get in, most times not, it is always a challenge to keep ahead of them. Whether you are using Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla or any other software based CMS system, it is vital, that the software be kept upto date including the addons or extensions, like templates components modules and widgets, as more than likely it is through these addons that the attackers will get in.

As software reaches its end of life cycle the developers stop working on the old versions and place all their efforts into the latest versions that give you more security and functionality, there are no more security patches for the old software as it is not supported.

What does this mean to me?
It also means that the possibility of being hacked, causing downtime, damage to your reputation, loss of data or many other negatives, is relatively high.

Is your Joomla version or other CMS up to date?

According to W3Techs, as of the beginning of July 2013, 63% of all Joomla sites are running old end of life versions
[Aside: if your site is one of those please just upgrade now. It's not going to be that painful and you are a sitting duck for hackers. By "now" I mean stop reading this and go upgrade. Seriously.]

So why is the number so high? There are usually a long list of factors, and most of them are valid.

Here are the ones we hear regularly:

Simply porting the site is going to be a lot of work.
We just did our site a few years ago and don't have the budget for it.
Things we rely upon didn't make it to the latest version.
We hate change.
The site is outdated; if we're going to update it we want to redesign it and that's a big job.
There's no reason to upgrade (AKA "if it ain't broke, don't fix it").
You're only telling me I need to upgrade because you want more business.

So what are the reasons to update

Better Security
New components are being developed for increased security
Extension Support
Ease of management and productivity Improvements
Smart Search, new Captcha plugin, Multi Languages, User Notes etc
Clasify content, Versioning of content, improved reliability
Always be upto date with the new features
Mobile friendly options
Inscrease security, enctypted passwords
Enhansed Search Engine Optimisation SEO
Get long term supported software
Avoid technology Obsolescence
Server software PHP, MySQL this is the software that drives the website sites and provised part of the security also being updated and eventually the old versions will stop working
An oportunity to renovate and clean up your current site
Just like a fresh coat of paint.
