Tip comon problem with new favicon (wont show up)

Hey Folks

I finally figured out how to get firefox to re cache my new favicons, thought i'd share it here.

It seems like many people (including me till now) are have issues with getting their favicon to show up on their site.

Here's a handy tip to get your favicon showing up so you *really* know its working.

This is for firefox, as I'm into firefox, so maybe others using different browsers can also add there own fix to this thread as well.

Your favicon should be in site_root/templates/rhuk_milkyway/favicon.ico

This is in the instance your using "rhuk_milkyway" as your default template, your favicon should be inside YOUR template folder.

Now once you have done this you may find its not showing up in firefox, this is because firefox is caching the old image.

This is the fix.

1. In your url bar type about:cache?device=disk and then hit enter

2. now hit ctrl f (on keyboard) to use the firefox find tool. At the bottom of your browser window you will see the search box, now enter the url of your favicon into the search box.

example : http://your_url.com/templates/rhuk_milkyway/favicon.ico :see below

3. Now click next, you should see a link to the favicon highlighted in green :see below

4. Click that link, you should get a new page, with another link at the top: see below

5. Now click that link, you should get a fire fox page that has the old default joomla favicon show up in the top right hand corner.

6. Just hit crtl F5 (refresh) you have now recached your favicon. You should see your new favicon now.

Now when you browse to your site your new favicon will show up.

You can repeat the above steps but replace

about:cache?device=disk
with
about:cache?device=memory

Hope this helps!

shorcut: if you navigate to
yoursite.c_om/templates/yourtemplate/favicon.ico

the favicon will then appear.

Clear cache and shift-reload. In Chrome, you will need to clear your browser's cache far enough back to make sure you've pre-dated the image cached on the first hit. (Chrome will let you clear cache for only the previous hour, day, week, etc.).

Laugh. Yes I know... it uploaded that way. I don't know why, so I don't know how to fix it. So that's the way it is... Since I'm in Canada, maybe the Aussies see me right side up... :P
