TOPIC: Gallery Help

Gallery Help 2 years, 4 months ago #17526

I am creating a gallery which is to be made up of various company logos.

I wish to know if two things are possible:

1) If i was to add new images at a later date, can the images be sorted automatically alphabetically?

2) Is it possible, when a user clicks on an image, they are taken to that companies home page?

Thank you very much for your time and advices

N_G,

What are you using to produce your gallery?

prettyBox is an outstanding module for displaying images in a 'gallery' format. Because of this, there are limitations based on what your needs are. First, it will display images alphabetically providing you name each image accordingly. However it will not allow for individual hyperlinks per image. All of the JoomlaBamboo image modules (prettyBox, Mini Moo 2, bambooBox, Captify Content, prettySlider, etc.) have an option for sorting your displays alphabetically but none offer outside hyperlink options.

There is a 'work-around' that I've used and posted in these forums that will allow your to include a HTML redirect code within content pages using either bambooBox or Captify Content (www.joomlabamboo.com/571-grid/16094-captify-content-module). Since these two modules pull their images directly from content pages within your Joomla installation, creating a very simple page redirect for each image/content page is quite easy. This forum post was for the Captify module but will also work if you choose to use the bambooBox module.

Many thanks Ed,

Makes perfect sense, however the end user who we are trying to create this website for is not very comfortable using code. Essentially the gallery will be maintained by them, and were looking for a solution that is friendly for them.

Are there any modules outside of joomlabamboo that you could recommend? Or any modules that could work alongside joomlabamboo? in addressing this niggling problem?

Again, really appreciate the advice and highly impressed with the timing and content of replies.

DB,

Almost all of the image galleries I've used that offer a direct hyperlink have limitations of their own. Most only allow for a small number of images because in part they are providing hyperlink code for each specific image. In addition, they don't allow for 'automatically alphabetically' sorting. So we indeed have a dilemma here with your request...

If you use bambooBox or Captify module you can instruct your client to create an image hyperlink within the content page. This will not allow for a direct 'fly-away' hyperlink but does provide for a link-through to outside websites by clicking on the image within the content page. Not what you were asking for or wanting but yet another work-around possibility.

I've played around with most of the image galleries for Joomla and have not found one that does everything your asking about. Sorry!

I've got a real busy day today but will root around the Joomla extensions website to see if I've missed an application that will better fit your specific needs.

DB,

Just wanted to follow-up and let you know that I struck-out finding a Joomla image gallery that offers the individual image hyperlinks you were asking about. As I mentioned, there are a few apps that offer image hyperlinks but only allow you to have no more then ten images and they will not 'automatically alphabetically' sort. Sorry for being the messenger of bad news... so don't shoot the piano player!
